A global recall recently announced by Toyota will affect some 242,000 of their hybrid cars. After receiving complaints from drivers, Toyota investigated these vehicles and discovered a defect in the brake system.
According to a Toyota spokeswoman, a flaw in the brake booster pump assembly allowed nitrogen gas to leak into the brake fluid, making the brakes in the Prius and Lexus models manufactured between March and October 2009 less effective. Drivers of these vehicles complained that they needed to heavily step on the brake pedal. Toyota USA said they are going to inspect the brake problem in the recalled hybrid cars and replace it if needed.
Last April Toyota recalled 1.7 million cars worldwide due to airbag problems.
