A New Jersey woman has filed a product liability lawsuit
against AstraZeneca claiming she suffered multiple foot fractures as a result
of taking Nexium and Prilosec.
According to New Jersey Superior Court documents, Susan A.
Poznavich alleges that the side effects of Nexium and Prilosec the popular heartburn drugs, made her bones
brittle after long-term use. The lawsuit says Poznavich suffered multiple
fractures in both feet, resulting in severe pain.
Nezium and Prilosec are both part of a class of drugs known
as proton pump inhibitors. Nexium is AstraZeneca’s best selling prescription
drug. It is also the third best-selling medication in the world. In May 2010,
the United States Food and Drug Administration issued a warning detaling the
risk of bone fractures from Nexium and Prilosec.
