Baby Jogger LLC has announced a recall of its titular product over concerns that a faulty lock system may put children at risk.
According to officials with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, there have been four reports of children falling from the Baby Jogger seats, resulting in scrapes, bruises, cuts, and a broken nose. The Chinese-made "jump seats" are an accessory used with strollers sold by Baby Jogger LLC.
The accessory can be used with the Baby Jogger City Elite, Baby Jogger City Classic, and Baby Jogger Summit. The seats were sold at retailers from January 2008 through July 2010 for a cost of about $100.
The company says the locking mechanism that allows parents to detach the "jump seats" may not function correctly, allowing the seat to break-free. Consumers are urged to stop using the jump seats immediately, and contact Baby Jogger LLC to learn how to obtain and install a set of safety straps.
