Ford Motor Corp. has announced a recall of 525,000 minivans around the world.
According to a company statement, the recall affects Windstar models made between 1999-2003. The recall is due to corrosion on the front frame, an issue about which Ford has already received 74 complaints. The company said the rust covered subframe on the Ford Windstar could separate from its mounts, which could cause the steering to fail. The subframe holds the engine, transmission, and front axle.
Ford will begin to notify customers next month, asking them to bring their minivans to a local dealership for repair. The recall only affects Windstar owners living in a cold climate, those living in the southern states are not affected by the corrosion problem.
More than 600,000 Ford Windstars were recalled last summer due to a corrosion problem on the rear beam axel.
