A woman was hospitalized Monday morning after her sport utility vehicle crashed into a duplex in Wausau.
According to officials with the Wausau Police Department, the crash occurred shortly before 7:30 a.m. in the 600 block of North 12th Avenue. Police say the woman lost control of her SUV, drove accross two lawns, and into the front of the home. The woman told her teenage daughter, who was also in the vehicle, that she felt ill while driving, accoridng to Wausa Police Captain Dwayne Dachel.
The SUV crashed through the home's front door and an attached garage. No one was home at the time of the accident.
The woman was trasnported by ambulance to Aspirus Wausau Hospital following the crash. Her teenage daughter sustaind minor injuries, Dachel said.
Darrin Marsh was in his home on Nicolet Street when the crash occurred and described the sound as a "loud boom."
"We hear those kind of noises on Bridge Street, but not here," Marsh said. The SUV also damaged a mailbox and porch swing in the two yards it crossed before hitting the duplex.
