A Merrill High School junior was killed in a Wausau car accident Monday night in rural Marathon County.
A Marathon County Sheriff's Department incident report says 17 year-old Benjamin Stahoski was speeding when he lost control of his vehicle shortly after 10:00 p.m. Monday. Police say the vehicle left the roadway and slammed into a utility pole on Fifth Lane south of Highway FF.
Stahoski was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident from blunt force trauma to the head, according to the Marathon County Coroner's Office.
A passenger in Stahoski's vehicle, 16 year-old Austin Graap, was transported by helicopter to Aspirus Wausau Hospital for treatment of injuries, police say. Graap was released from the hospital Tuesday and is at home recuperating.
The crash remains under investigation by the Marathon County Sheriff's Office.
