A 22-month-old boy was killed in an accident involving his toy chest.  The California toddler died from strangulation after the lid of the toy chest attached to his bed fell on the back of his head, entrapping his neck on the edge of the chest. 

That toy chest was part of a LaJolla Boat Bed.  Since the incident both the LaJolla Boat Bed and Pirates of the Caribbean Twin Trundle beds have been recalled. 

The hazard lies in the lid support for the toy chest that fails to prevent the lid from closing to quickly.  This causes the threat of a child being entrapped or strangulated. 

Consumers are advised to immediately stop their children from using the toy chest.  Families should contact the firm Bayside Furnishings for instructions on receiving a repair kit with replacement lid supports.
