Child hit by car near school

by Administrator 24. March 2010 01:52

A 9-year-old girl was hit by a car in front of Riverview Elementary in Wausau last week, authorities said. The girl was crossing the street on the way to school with her brother, police said, when she walked in front of a car. The vehicle struck her, and she was taken to the hospital. Her mother said the accident caused the girl to have a concussion, and her leg will be splinted for a week.

The vehicle's driver has not been charged or ticketed in the incident, pending an investigation. Police remind drivers to slow down and watch for pedestrians in school zones. They also encourage parents to teach their children how to cross the street safely.
