Caution Urged when Fishing Near Dams in Spring

by Administrator 20. March 2009 04:49

After a long, hard Wisconsin winter, the spring thaw is generally agreed to be a positive development. The warming weather lures us outside to enjoy all that nature has to offer in this exciting time of rejuvenation and breathtaking new scenery.

However, the changing temperatures of springtime come with some hidden but deadly dangers, as melting snow and blocks of ice can create a number of hazardous conditions for those fishing near dams. The combination of swift currents and water temperatures still near freezing make any accidents on the water especially risky.

The best way to avoid any boating related incidents would be to stay away from dams altogether during this period. However, a few basic cautionary measures, such as always wearing a life vest and remaining alert to the sirens that indicate flood-gate opening, can greatly reduce the chance of capsizing.
