Lawn Mower Injuries on the Rise

by Administrator 15. July 2010 03:35

Lawn mower injuries are on the rise, according to a report released by the Wisconsin Division of Trade and Consumer Protection.

In 2009 247,000 people in the United States suffered lawn mower-related injuries, a seven percent increase from 2008. Brock Bergey, a spokesman for the Wisconsin Division of Trade and Consumer Protection, said most of the injuries are a result of carelessness, but defective products can also cause injury. "We see deep cuts, loss of fingers, toes, eye injuries," Bergey said. "If people think a little bit before they go out and mow, these can be prevented.

In Wisconsin 109 people were treated for lawn mower-related injuries last year. The United States Department of Health Services said such injuries are not as common in the state as they are in the rest of the country.

A man from Fountain City was injured on Saturday after he was involved in an accident. The accident occurred south of Arcadia.

The man was riding on his tractor and attempting to steer it up a driveway. A mechanical failure then occurred that caused the tractor to act erratically.  The man inside the tractor was then ejected from the vehicle.

The man was transported to a hospital by helicopter.  The injuries that the man sustained have not yet been released to the public.  The accident is currently under investigation by officials.

Toy Chest Kills Toddler

by Administrator 16. July 2008 02:07

A 22-month-old boy was killed in an accident involving his toy chest.  The California toddler died from strangulation after the lid of the toy chest attached to his bed fell on the back of his head, entrapping his neck on the edge of the chest.

That toy chest was part of a LaJolla Boat Bed.  Since the incident both the LaJolla Boat Bed and Pirates of the Caribbean Twin Trundle beds have been recalled.

The hazard lies in the lid support for the toy chest that fails to prevent the lid from closing to quickly.  This causes the threat of a child being entrapped or strangulated.

Consumers are advised to immediately stop their children from using the toy chest.  Families should contact the firm Bayside Furnishings for instructions on receiving a repair kit with replacement lid supports.

If your child has been injured by the toy chest from the LaJolla Boat Bed or Pirates of the Caribbean Twin Trundle beds, please contact the Wausau Product Liability lawyers at Habush, Habush, & Rottier at 1-800-248-0171 to discuss your case and to determine your legal options.
