A man was injured early Wednesday evening in a Wausau car accident.

According to officials with the Wausau County Sheriff's Department, the crash occurred shortly after 5:00 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Stewart Avenue and the Highway 52 Parkway. Police say a 41 year-old female driver from Wausau was traveling east on Stewart Avenue when she ran a red light and struck a vehicle going south on Highway 52 parkway. The vehicle was pushed into a traffic light, damaging the pole, according to Lt. Bill Kolb.

The 61 year-old male victim was transported to Aspirus Wausau Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The female driver was cited for inattentive driving, Kolb said.

A Hay Market man was killed in a Wausau car accident Sunday.

According to officials with the Wisconsin State Patrol, 33 year-old Shane B. Schmidt was struck and killed by a vehicle, driven by 51 year-old Su O. Borem, as he crossed  County Road A shortly before 1:00 a.m. Sunday. A preliminary investigation shows that Schmidt was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Police do not believe alcohol was a factor in Borem's case.

Schmidt was transported by Tomahawk EMS to Ministry Sacred Heart hospital for treatment. He was later transferred by Med E Vac air to the trauma center at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. He was pronounced dead at 5:00 a.m. Sunday.

Wisconsin State Patrol troopers continue to investigate the crash.

A Weston man was injured in a crash on Interstate 39 outside of Wausau Friday.

According to Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper Kurt Tomkowiak, the 53 year-old man was traveling north on I-39 when he crossed the median and two lanes of southbound traffic before crashing into a pine tree. The crash occurred shortly after 4:30 p.m. near Maple Ridge Road.

Rescuers worked for over an hour removing the man from his vehicle, a job which required the Jaws of Life. The driver was transported by helicopter to Aspirus Wausau Hospital for treatment.

There were no other cars involved in the accident, and the man was the sole occupant of his vehicle.

Police stopped traffic on the Interstate while rescuers worked to free the man. Southbound traffic was backed up between Maple Ridge Road and Highway N.

A Mosinee man was injured in a Wausau motorcycle accident in the town of Norrie Saturday.

According to Marathon County Sheriff's Deputies, police responded to a 911 call of a motorcycle accident at the intersection of Highway D and Highway OO, east of Hatley, shortly after 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Marathon County Sheriff's Lt. Fred Goch said deputies discovered a man in a ditch, with a motorcycle nearby.

The 48 year-old man was transported by ambulance to Ministry Saint Clare's Hospital in Weston for head injuries, police said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities could not say whether alcohol was a factor in the wreck.

The identity of the injured man was not immediately available.

Two drivers were injured in two separate car accidents near Kronenwetter Tuesday morning.

According to officials with the Wausau County Sheriff's Department, both accidents occurred in the southbound lanes of Interstate 39 shortly after 10:15 a.m.

Police say the first accident was caused by a large amount of debris in the roadway near the Maple Road exit. A mini-van lost control on the rain-slicked road while the driver attempted to swerve. The second crash involved a car that left the roadway and careened into a ditch.

Both drivers were transported, by ambulance, to Wausau Aspirus hospital. The nature of their injuries was not immediately known. The names of the drivers have not been released.
