An 85-year-old man was airlifted to the hospital Monday afternoon after a tractor accident left him with life-threatening injuries, police said. According to reports, the man had been thrown off his tractor in rural Baraboo, Wis., and was then hit by the machine. He lay there injured for several hours until a Sauk County deputy found him, reports said.
The man suffered severe internal injuries, police said, in addition to extreme blood loss because he had lain injured for several hours before help arrived. Paramedics had to replace lost fluids, treat the man for hypothermia and immobilize the man until the helicopter arrived. He was taken to the University of Wisconsin Hospital for treatment.
